CME Accreditation

The 2014 event was an accredited group learning activity under Section 1 as defined by the Royal College of Physicians & Surgeons of Canada for the Maintenance of Certification program. This program was approved by the Canadian Cardiovascular Society for a maximum of 18 credits in 2014. Through an agreement between the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada and the American Medical Association, physicians may convert Royal College MOC credits to AMA PRA Category 1 Credits. Telemetry Workshop
An Approach to Inhospital Electrocardiographic Monitoring (Telemetry) Electrocardiographic monitoring (telemetry) allows for monitoring of life-threatening tachy or bradyarrhythmias for high risk cardiac patients.  Technologies have improved over the years, which can automatically alert for abnormal ectopies, tachy or bradyarrhythmias or even pauses.  Despite these advancements, the importance of skilled healthcare professionals to interpret these findings is still paramount. Learning ObjectivesThe purpose of this workshop is to explore and achieve better understanding of the following:

  1. Definitions and terms used for arrthythmias
  2. To develop an approach to telemetry strips from basic to complex arrthythmias.
  3. An interactive case base approach to examples of interesting strips.

At the end of this session, the attendees will have a better understanding of the Indications and pitfalls of electrocardiographic monitoring.  In addition, they should develop an improved and deeper understanding and approach to telemetric arrhythmia interpretation. Topics to be discussed

ECG Workshop
How to differentiate supraventricular tachycardias The ECG Workshop will take place over two sessions on Friday and Saturday. SESSION #1: Review of an easy-to-learn algorithm for the differential diagnosis of supraventricular arrhythmias. At the end of the meeting, a booklet with ten cases will be distributed as homework for the next session. SESSION #2: Review of the homework cases with an auto-evaluation test. Final considerations.
ECG in Devices
How to recognize normal and abnormal device function Objectives: 1.      To review normal paced ECG: pacing morphology, tracking and non-tracking pacing mode, hysteresis, rate-drop response, AAI-DDD automatic mode switch, ventricular safety pacing 2.      To review the common causes and ECG manifestations of pacemaker malfunction 3.      To provide an algorithm on how to troubleshoot paced ECG 4.      To discuss cases interactively At the end of this session, the attendees will have a better understanding of paced ECG, with an organized approach to troubleshooting. Through the examples discussed interactively, attendees should be able to recognize the most common forms of normal and abnormal paced ECGs.
